Satin9 Talking Visual Device Software - We have developed the ‘Satin9 Talking Visual Device Software’, used by people with low vision to “read”. The software uses a flatbed scanner to scan a printed page, converts the scanned image to text using an external Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software and outputs the text to the computer speakers in voice format. The steps involved are:

• Scanning of Printed Pages.
• Converting Scanned image to text using OCR.
• Option to save the scanned page and add more pages. This option is useful in case the user wants to scan a complete book and then listen to it at a later date.
• Read out the converted text using Microsoft Speech Engine.
• Additional options available are:
  
  • Change the voice to a variety of male/female voices.
  • Increase or Decrease the speed at which the text is being read.
  • Rewind & forward option for easy navigation within the file.
